I have a question here. For the guys that are running the OEM FX50 21" wheels, what the heck do you do when tires are required.
I have searched and there is only:
1 Summer tire available by Dunlop
1 All Season tire by Bridgestone (Dueler)
1 Winter Tire (Bridgestone Blizzak.)
There is no selection available, and what happens if one of these was discontinued.
It does not sound like a good situation if you were not pleased with the tires performance.

Any ideas ?? Do you think this could be a serious problem.

I ask because I have considered getting these wheels, but am not sure now, considering tire availability.

what you are pointing out is probably one of the biggest drawbacks to choosing the 21" wheel to begin with...

eventually there may become more tire choices available, maybe...

The limited selection does seem to be a big liability but I am thus far pleased with the Dunlop summer tires that come OEM. After riding on the crappy Goodyear RS-A's these seem like the best tires in the world! Says a lot on how bad the RS-A's are if a summer tire rides softer and handles better at the same time.

Infiniti seemed to have known that going with the 21" package was going to be more of a burden, hence making the sport package a separate and conscious decision on the buyers part. Those willing to shell out the money for the extra sportiness and increased maintenance costs of four wheel turning, active suspension, odd tires sizes, and winter tires when needed would know what they were getting themselves into...ideally. There are always exceptions to the rule.

I wouldn't worry about the tires being discontinued. Any company that has someone decently smart would realize they have a monopoly on the tire size. Unless you just aren't looking hard enough and finding all the available tires.

I have considered buying a set from a local seller as well but for the same reasons have held back on the purchase.

It's not as bad for me since I would only need a set of summer tires but I'm already spending enough money on tires for the coupe with 19s on them :(

One of the benfits of living in a southern state now. I remember when I lived in NY, I had a set of winter tires & wheels for my A4.

when I had 19" wheels on my Acura... buying tires (low profile ones) was such a PITA. 20s where cheaper than 19s.... but that was 5 years ago, so maybe things have changed with the 19s... it's like 21s going through the same phase now...

bump to an old thread. Looking to get replacements for my 21" FX50 rims soon and want to start exploring options. I'm looking for all-season, so is the bridgestones still the only all season 21" tire?

Thread re-re-vival.

I am currently researching tires for my yet to be installed (or repainted for that matter) OE 21's. I have two sets of rubber and I have never run them, forgive me for my madness. I am currently looking at the Conti cross contact UHP's in the 265/40/21 size. Same diameter as my current GTR's with the 295/40 toyo ST II's and a decent contact patch of 9.5", SO no change in torque or fitment height for the CO's. Essentially this move is to a larger more substantial faced wheel with a more aggressive lower profile tire.

#1 has anybody stepped outside the OE 21" tire size and #2, If I do buy another set of rubber is anybody interested in an UNUSED set of Bridgestone's or a set of Dunlop's with 70% tread left? I also have three OE 21" wheels to sell with light rash as well. Collector/ modder, we all run the fine line of crazy......

Re-re-re-vival!

Logan, did you ever pull the trigger on the 265/40's? I'm almost to the point where I need to buy a new set of tires and I can't bring myself to buy a brand new set of the 265/45's. Do you ever sell your set of Bridgestone's?

hey Don, I haven't pulled the trigger as I didn't or don't want to take a chance on the lower profile 40's. The Bridgestones are still sitting, I am going test mount them this weekend but as of now they have zero miles.

Aside from the Bridgestones and the Dunlops, the following choices are available:

265/40-21 Atturo AZ850 105Y XL (-3.4% Shorter tire) ~ $170ea
275/45-21 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 110W (1.2% Taller tire) ~$375ea
295/40-21 Pirelli Scorpion Zero 111V (OEM height, but much wider tire for a 9.5" rim) ~$360ea
295/40-21 Continental Conti Crosscontact (OEM height, but much wider tire for a 9.5" rim) ~$425ea
295/40-21 Pirelli PZero 111Y (OEM height, but much wider tire for a 9.5" rim) ~$435ea

I am not sure I would personally run a 295 tire on a 9.5" rim, but they will mount up. You will have 'rim protection' at that width.
