Replace Fx Steering wheel with different model?

Hi everyone, I'm in the market for an Infiniti fx35. I currently drive an '05 BMW M3 (which is for sale by the way) and I'm looking for something more practical while remaining sporty.

I'm sold on purchasing an 06' fx35, I don't want the gas guzzling of the v8 and I absolutely need the interior overhaul of the post 05 models. With that said, I absolutely hate the steering wheel on the fx. Has anyone attempted to swap the steering wheel of the fx with say the newer m45's? Is it even possible?

I tried searching excessively as I know all about posting new threads unnecessarily while on the m3forum. Any help would be great, thanks everyone and i hope to have pictures of a new ride by the end of the month.

I would suspect it would take a lot of modding to make a m45 steering wheel fit the FX. I know turbocad has done a G35 steering wheel swap though but I don't know how involved it was. PM turbocad about it as he would be the person to ask about mods like that here. But then again he will probably chime in here sooner or later.

Yes it is. It is a SMG 2005 BMW M3 coupe. I'm asking $30k obo
Car has 35,xxx miles on it. Premium package (harmon-kardon seats, imola red interior).
Cold-weather package (heated seats, headlamp washers, rain sensors). Navigation, Parking sensors, Oem 19' rims.

It is still under factory warranty until Sept. 9th, 2009.

No, must be glare on the driver-side hid. The hids weren't running when the pic was taken.

And thanks about me being able to thread jack my own thread, the moderators have a quick trigger-finger on m3forum. I need to shake-off some of their bad habits.
 
The steering wheel swap in pretty doable. Aside from having to rewire some of the lights and function for the buttons and controls on the wheel itself you'll also need to get an alignment since the steering wheel won't sit level as is. The only other hurdle would be the cost as the airbag will be a good chunk of change.

yeah, in a nutshell aiya pretty much summed it up, the g37 wheel did sit slightly off center, hard to be sure that the m will too but even if it did, worse case , realignment would solve it, I've been looking at tthe m wheel too, not sure that I love it yet though... still looking for the "right" steering wheel... the g37 was ok but the triangular airbag just kinda didn't match well enough to me I guess...
 
I can try the G37 steering wheel. i really have no preference I just can't stand the fx steering wheel. For some reason it just contracts too much from the 'look' of the car. Maybe I'm just being too anal and should let it slide, but I'm looking for a 'sporty' steering wheel.
 
should be bolt it on, realign if necissary, remap the wiring for the buttons, done...

the rewiring is the tricky part & most likely no one is going to figure it out until the actually do the swap... I kinda want to but big $$$ for something that I can live with for now, so much other things that would be better spent on, like saving up for the rotrex chargers or something :tongue:

if anyone really wants to do it it can be done though...
