Coolant Change

Pending my move back to San Diego I plan on doing a radiator flush.. Just wondering what kind of coolant have others used?

Thanks

I'll probably just buy some silica free green coolant and some distilled water then. Thanks

Forgot to update this thread,

I used peak long life concentrate coolant(which is silicate free) mixed with distilled water and a bottle of hyper-lube super coolant. At first the car raised hotter than normal so I massaged the coolant hoses with the cap off to try to force any air pockets out....topped it off and now everything is working great.

When do you change the coolant? I have 83k miles, I don't think I've ever changed the coolant.......temperature always stays under the middle line so I keep thinking the coolant is doing it's job.

When I randomly checked today, the color looks pretty dark.......

Did you do fill the radiator with the bleeder screw off until coolant flowed out of the bleeder screw hole?

I change mine once a year. I let it bleed out through the screw at the bottom of the radiator and refill it. I burp the system using a cheaper funnel I bought at Amazon.

so for the fx, just unplug the coolant plug somewhere in the bottom ten stick water hose on top of radiator to clean out the system then plug it back up then pour coolant? < is this ok?

to flush? i think you'll need to drain, then refill with about 1 gallon of distilled water and run the car until normal temp, rev a few times and drain the water. Supposedly keep doing this until the water comes out 'clear'. Then you can fill again with the coolant.

ok thank u,but now, wheres the plug to drain lol. any pic?

I got 73k on my car never did it before it's still pretty clean do you guys recommend me changing it since its clean or should I just leave it

when flushing these VQ35 i find air pockets to be really common on it. I've done about 6 other drain/fills on other cars even a Vq30 and never had an air pocket issue.

I did one on a coupe and it was just a huge headache, I then bought a lisle no spill coolant funnel and it made it cake, no air pockets, very clean and fast way to do it.

Can somebody please point out or take a photo of the location of the coolant air relief plug? I can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

On the same topic. Has anyone switched to Evan's waterless coolant on their FX?

I'm picking up a new radiator, and re-doing some of the hoses and piping yet again on my FX. So I am thinking of switching to their waterless coolant. Seems like a great concept.

I'm trying to think if I can explain it in words, but I'll look for a picture now. It's just right of the battery, left of the engine. Should be a plastic phillips shaped screw, maybe the size of a nickel.

Edit: this should do the trick

Bought radiator drain plug o-ring and OEM radiator cap from Nissan dealership.

Infiniti is selling the same cap for $23 and Nissan had it for $18.

For reference the o-ring part number is: 21481-89900
